One of the points I had mentioned in previous blogs was investing in my education to become a real estate investor. This has been the largest, scariest investment in myself that I have ever made. You see, our financial situation was rapidly declining when I decided to go all in on a real estate education program. For the majority of my life, I have been a dental hygienist. That’s all I knew since high school. When my employment situation changed, I knew I had to try something new and different. It was daunting. I first tried my hand at network marketing. This took some start up capital for product, advertising and some travel and money was very tight at the time. I was not very successful at it and I eventually became discouraged about the entire thing. The product was great, I just wasn’t very good at sales.

To inspire myself, I decided to read a book about network marketing written by Robert Kiyosaki. Instead, that book motivated my to look into real estate investing. So, when I heard he was going to be in the Bay Area to speak on the subject of real estate, I signed up, eager to meet him and to see what this was all about. Unfortunately I was stuck in traffic and missed his appearance. I did, however, stay to listen to the remainder of the event. I was intrigued and signed my husband and myself up for the program. It was a huge investment and after being married for only a year at this point, I was certain he might divorce me. Again… terrifying.

It was a huge gamble, but I believed in myself and I was committed to making this work and to get us out of debt and financially free. It was time for us to stop working to make others rich while we stayed in the rat race. It paid off. We had our first deal within 6 months of starting our education. It was a small, modest home that we rehabbed and sold with enough profit to move on to the next deal. The money and time we spent learning this business and the committed actions we took, put us on the path of building real wealth and being able to live our dreams. We’ve been investing in real estate and in our personal development ever since.

Investing in yourself is not a one and done deal. You should always be learning and growing. There are many resources available to us for knowledge, growth and transformation.
